In 1980, as a Theater Arts major, Collins graduated from the Alabama School of Fine Arts. In 1985, the celebrity grasped a bachelor of arts degree at Indiana University. In addition to this, the celebrity gained an M.F.A. as a dramatic author at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.

Her husband is Charles. The couple has two kids named Isabella and Charlie.
